At our company the life cycle of every cabbage-head starts from a seed. We order our seeds from a few professional European companies, which produce specially treated and selected seeds of an equal size. With the help of some mechanisms the seeds are sown into pallets, filled with a special peat substrate meant for cabbage. The palettes are displayed in greenhouses where the plantlets grow and develop fully, and are carefully cared for, watered and fed.
When the plantlets are almost ready for planting, they are taken outside to the chilling area. During the whole growing period around 3.5 million cuttings are grown in Dimdiņi! The selection of varieties is done, taking into account verified values, but the new varieties are subjected to fine analysis according to the production indicators during their growing and processing. The varieties are selected at meetings where the company's executives, food technologist, agronomists, and the production manager analyze the suitability of each variety to the production process, as well as the quality of the fresh cabbage.
This greenhouse period in Dimdiņi is special. It helps us feel the spring sooner as well as butterflies flying in the abdomen, when thinking about the responsible working season waiting ahead... But we are experts, possessing enough experience and knowledge...
